BERTHA ALICIA AGUILAR GARCIA
I am mesmerized with the drift of life.
As an artist, I am invested in capturing and presenting it; life as a flow, containing fragments of uncertain duration, of perceptions, thoughts, emotions, awareness and blackouts. If there is any, the void and the bridge between perceiving and thinking might be the connecting thread of my work. I am compelled to generate artworks that can offer to their observers or participants a reformulation of their past experience through a different tactile approach.
My work is shaped by immediate environmental encounters, conversations, newspapers, minor objects, books, artworks, all meshed together by the unexpected ties of affection and causality. Most of them show on their surface the passing of time. Through them, I chance a conversation between rescue and oblivion, remembrance and forgetfulness. These encounters are re-created in my work through the use of a variety of tools and materials that range from the object itself to its representation through traditional studio arts practices, digital time based media and text.
Nowadays, I am interested in generating a sensory space to dwell in the concepts of violence, utopia, and the social contract.
